There is a growing acknowledgement that absolute identity proofing is neither practical nor possible, including recent Gartner Research. Reduce applicant frustration and combat identity theft when you layer in Whitepages Pro Identity Check™ at the front-end of the consumer lending application workflow to validate identities, catch discrepancies, and triage risky applications quickly.
Identity Check Risk Signals for Origination
Learn how to use the comprehensive data attributes of Identity Check and the risk signals for assessing the validity of an applicant’s contact information.
How to use Identity Check data to assess risk
Our dynamic identity data provides lenders with an additional layer for real-time identity assessment and a view into who’s behind the application that’s submitted. It’s easy, scalable and fast, providing a valuable pre-processing assessment layer for your loan originations application workflow.
Identity Check is the only five-in-one search solution that takes a customer’s application data, such as name, addresses, phone, and email, and intelligently matches the data attributes in real-time.
Correlations to potential risks on applications and account sign-ups are easily identified with Identity Check. From our data, the following dynamic data signals correlate to identity assessment strategies.
Negative Signals Associated with Risk
When Whitepages Pro data links a different name in our records for the phone, address, or email than what’s submitted on an application, it may require additional review.
In situations where our records indicate that a phone, address or details around the email on an application are invalid, it may require additional review.
Domain Creation Date
Whitepages can identify when an email domain was created. If the domain is brand new or was recently created, that is a very strong risk signal.
Non-fixed VOIP phone types
This line type is very easy to sign up for and often used by fraudsters. For this reason, it’s one of our strongest risk indicators.
Our data recognizes if a phone is prepaid. This is a potential risk indicator for certain types of lending, especially larger sums and those associated with contract terms.
Disposable Email Domain
These email services are free and easy to use and when seen are often associated with fraudsters (e.g. guerillamail.com, 10minutemail.com).
This flag can spotlights when an email appears to be auto-generated by a computer and may not link to an actual real person.
Email Never Seen
Whitepages has been in business for 20 years, when we’ve never seen an email before, or seen one established less than 180 days ago, this correlates to higher risk potential and possibly fraud.
Proxy IP Address
This is a risk indicator because the computer an application is submitted from is being hidden.
If we see an address that is not currently receiving mail, this tends to suggest a risky application.
Data Associated with Positive Signals
Our dynamic identity data also provides significant value in identifying good applications and improving agent review times.
We match the name, phone, address, email, and IP on an application to determine if they belong to the same person.
When we see that an online application that is near the address on the application, it’s often a positive indicator.
When we see an address that is currently receiving mail it is often a positive indicator.
Email first seen…
When we see longer history of the email being established, greater than two years, it provides confirmation of legitimacy.
Whitepages Pro’s dynamic identity data is utilized by America’s great brands to originate loans across the spectrum of prime, alternative, and subprime lending; including three of the largest banks, many of the largest alternative lenders and four of the top seven leading originators in home mortgage lending.
Identity Check is also available via API, so you can easily apply into your current application review process. Our APIs can be directly integrated directly into your eco system as well as through Zoot and Fair Isaacs.
